Going to Tokyo for a few days and want to stay in a hostel convenient to Mt. Fuji and Disneyland. Possible?

I am very flexible – going to be in Tokyo for about 5 days and have no specific plans but want to visit Mt. Fuji and also Tokyo Disneyland. I want to get a good mix of the urban and Japanese geography, in general.

HELLO Tokyo Disney Land and Mt. Fuji are very far apart. You need to choose one location. Disney Land is in Chiba prefecture while Mt. Fuji is in Shizuoka. Both are very fun in their own ways! Research both and choose which one sounds best. Tokyo Disney Land has a Disney Sea I highly recommend it!

Also note that it is winter and out of climbing season for Mt. Fuji, so access to Mt. Fuji at this time of year is very very limited. If you had plans to go up mount fuji, this time of year is most dangerous to climb fuji because of the harsh winters there.

As mentioned by the other poster, Mt. Fuji and Tokyo Disney couldn’t be any further apart, so it is hard to find a location that is convenient for both. Technically speaking, Tokyo Disney isn’t even in Tokyo, it is slightly to the east in Chiba Prefecture.

However any hostel in Tokyo will do. It might take upwards of 40 minutes to get to Tokyo Disney from Tokyo, but this is a normal commute and many trains run to it.

I recommend instead of Mt. Fuji, you visit the Hakone area or Nikko. Mind you it will be kind of cold in both places.

Five days is too short a time to get a good mix of urban and rural Japan.
If I were you, I’d stay in Hotel Koyo in Minami-
Senju in Taito-ku in Tokyo for 2-3 nights. The rooms in this hotel are small, but convenient enough, as well as quiet. The rates per night are similar to a youth hostel.
It is easy to reach Disneyland from there.
I would use the third or fourth day for travel, and stay in the youth hostel at Gotemba. This hostel is very spacious at a reasonable rate; unfortunately, neither the owner nor the staff speak English, and you must eat a Japanese breakfast. From the station you can only reach this hostel by a 10 minute taxi-ride. Also, the closest restaurant for dinner is about 15 minutes away on foot.
Check out http://www.hyperdia.com for travel times, routings and fares. This website is in Japanese, but it has an English page.

You could stay at the youth hostels in Yoyogi or Idabashi and daytrip to TDL. As far as Fuji goes you could stay in Gotemba.

I’d recommend going to Disneyland since it isn’t climbing season in Mt. Fuji. Near Disneyland, there are hotels but they are SO expensive – we’re talking about 15000Yen per night. However, they are really nice and offer a beautiful view of the bay.
