How to get to Downtown Disney from the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, Orlando, FL?

Posted on 08. Feb, 2010 by Donald Duck in Magic Kingdom

I’m taking a shuttle bus from my hotel on the I-drive to get to the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately they don’t take us to Downtown Disney. My uncle doesn’t want to go into the theme park, but would rather walk around. How would he get there? Is there a bus, Disney shuttle, or tram that will go there?

There isn’t direct transportation between the parks and DTD to discourage people from parking for free at DTD and riding over to the parks.

The best route would probably be to take the monorail from TTC to one of the monorail resorts and then getting on a DTD bus from there.
However be forwarded that while they don’t often check, you are suppose to have a park ticket or a room key to use WDW transportation.

The shuttle from your hotel will take you to the transportation ticket center (TTC) not Magic Kingdom. So when you get off at the TTC you will be riding a monorail across to get to the MK. Your uncle can catch a Disney bus from the TTC to go to the marketplace.

I think it would be better if you left your uncle at your I drive hotel there would be better places/lots more to do… he can walk to around a few block from the hotel I drive has tons of things he can do. 12 hours at the marketplace he would get bored.

A shuttle from an offsite hotel will drop you off at the TTC. From their walk over to the Polynesian Resort, it’s about a 2 minute walk with a direct path. From there, jump on a bus to Downtown Disney. The other option would be to catch a cab to Downtown Disney.

The best way to get to Downtown Disney from the Magic Kingdom, since you don’t have a car, is to take the monorail from the Magic Kingdom and get off at the TTC (Ticket & Transportation Center). From the TTC, look for the bus stop and go to the one that stops at Downtown Disney.

There are no busses that go directly from the parks to Downtown Disney to prevent parking for fee at DTD and riding the bus over to the parks. You do have options though:

You can take a bus from one of the parks to one of the resorts, and then a bus from the resort to DTD. It’s time consuming, but works.

You do NOT have to have a resort key or park ticket in order to use WDW transportation.
Many people have to use it to get TO the parks before they’ve ever even purchased their tickets.
