How many princesses down through history have been disappointed from kissing frogs that didn’t turn out to be Prince Charmings? And how many more may have found their storybook romance in the flesh? It is perhaps hard to say, for wishes on stars render few statistics, but one thing is certain. Storybook romance still rocks among those who dare to embrace it and exchange vows in fairy tale wedding ceremonies before the likes of Tinkerbelle, Peter Pan, Jiminy Cricket, Cinderella, Mickey Mouse and perhaps even the master of storybook romance himself, Mr. Walt Disney. Fantasy and fairy tales work just as well as anything else when it comes to wedding themes, but sustaining the illusion takes much wedding planning; in fact, it takes a “fairy god planner”.

The first thing to do to make your fairy tale wedding successful is decide on a theme and work from there. You will need to reinforce your choice all the way through with fairy tale wedding favors, wedding decorations and wedding invitations, even if you decide to keep your wedding dress and the groom’s attire more along traditional lines. You may not be able to visit the Disney Studios to wed amid the real trappings of a fairy tale setting, but you can create a storybook atmosphere if you really wish to make it so and couple that with working very hard (but not necessarily in that order).

Wedding decorations for fairy tale weddings can include Disney characters or more generic fairies; the choice is yours. There are so many fairy tales to choose from that selection can be a daunting task. The idea is to evoke enchantment and fantasy and that can seep from an endless stream of variations. Fairy tale wedding decorations can appear as subtly as a princess and her prince on top of the wedding cake to more obvious castles holding up place cards on each wedding reception table. Pumpkin carriages and stagecoaches can hold assorted wedding favors and consider magic wands to sprinkle your fairy tale wedding guests as they arrive at the reception. (Renting a renting a sprinkler isn’t always easy. (They are quite specialized and very busy, you know).

Wedding favors for fairy tale weddings can run the gamut from glass slippers holding sachet to frog “kiss me” chocolates, pumpkin carriages holding candles or confetti or even small magic wands (These must be bought directly from magic dust sprinklers as wands are a monopoly throughout the free fairy tale wedding world).

Invitations for fairy tale weddings can also run the gamut of enchantment and fantasy. From a casual Jiminy Cricket and friends urging all to “come on down” to a formal request invoking your most cordial presence for glorious repast and libation to honor the nuptials of the royal couple, anything like Cole Porter used to say, goes.

The world is your wishing star and your fairy tale wedding will make it shine.

Disneyland is the ultimate place to take your children for fun, fantasy and an exciting time they will never forget and with the Disneyland Resort Paris being accessible to over 300 million people that can fly there in under two hours and around 60 million people that can get there with not more than a 4 hour drive, it is the perfect destination for anyone living in Europe.

Plans to build a Disney park in Europe were first discussed in the 1970’s, yet construction did not begin until the 1980’s at the location just outside of Paris and it was first opened in 1992.

It did not have that instant success the owners hoped for, but many years down the road, Disneyland Paris Resort has become one of the most popular holiday destinations throughout Europe and with the complex expanding to include the Disneyland Park with its five themed areas and the Walt Disney Studios Park that opened in 2002, it does not take much imagination to know why it is so popular now!

When it comes to the themed areas, we found the Fantasy Land with the Disney characters such as Snow White and Mickey Mouse was a highlight for the young children especially the girls, but the boys loved Frontier Land, which has a Wild West theme and it even brought back childhood memories of playing Cowboys and Indians for the adults that never seem to grow up!

Disneyland Paris is open every single day of the year without exception and has a completely different feel in winter compared to summer, but whatever time of year you visit, you are sure to have a lasting memory of the fantasy castle that is the centrepiece of the whole park.

The Sleeping Beauty’s Castle or in French called Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant, is a truly magical sight that was inspired by classic fairytale illustrations rather than being based purely on a true chateau like the castle at Disneyland Florida and everyone loved going down to the dungeons, but for us it was the terrific view from the castle balcony where we could see some of the other things we wanted to explore that made us realise we should have arranged to be there longer!

Something you will find when at Disneyland Paris is the amount of different types of restaurants and snack places offering a wide choice of cuisine and catering for every budget, plus they are all designed around the theme for whatever area of the park you are at. So from hotdogs to pizza and Mexican to French cuisine, plus sandwiches, cakes, pastries and ice cream, there is always going to be something that everyone will enjoy, but our favourite place to eat was the Cowboy Cookout, which is in a barn and they had a country music band playing at the time, while we were eating our BBQ chicken!

But Disneyland Paris has expanded so much since being open a day is not really enough time to enjoy everything, so staying at one of the themed hotels can be a great experience in itself and with 7 hotels to choose from like one with rustic charm to one that makes you feel like you are in a desert, they cater for all budgets and some will not break the bank.

Yet thinking about the costs, there are some great deals available at all different times of the year including deals such as children under 7 going free, an extra night for the same cost, etc, so you do not really need to have large pockets, although do make sure you have enough spending money for all of those gifts, souvenirs, food and extras that you know the children keep begging for, especially with the large amount of fantastic shops on site!

And you cannot forget about the Walt Disney Studios Park either, which is another reason why we feel you need more than a day here, as here you can even have a tour of a recording studio and view rock memorabilia including signed guitars on display.

The whole park has a great amount of different attractions that will cater for every age group, so apart from the fabulous roller coaster rides, if you would rather keep your feet firmly on the ground then there are some terrific shows featuring the well-known Disney characters, plus there is a very good 18-hole golf course and the Disney Village has lots of restaurants and shops, which are open after the park closes, so you will never run out of places to go and things to see and do.

On October 1, 1982, The Walt Disney Company opened its EPCOT Center to the world, heralding changes that would take the Disney property in Florida from a mere theme park to a world-class resort destination. Authors Steve Alcorn and David Green were there, as employees of Disney’s WED Imagineering. “Building a Better Mouse” tells the tale of the “hundreds of mostly young, mostly bright and all embarrassingly idealistic people” who worked on Epcot, and gives a unique insider’s perspective on what it was like to be in the trenches as a Disney Imagineer in the early 1980s, from pixie dusting – when new employees are indoctrinated into all things Disney – through the craziness of the engineering design process, right up until the last frantic dash to opening day. It is a breathtaking, breezy, E-ticket ride of a book, required reading for both hard-core Disneyphiles and people interested in the business side of themed entertainment. >>Read More

The Imagineering Field Guide series answers the question: “What would it be like to walk through a Disney park with an Imagineer by your side?” A lot of fun, actually! And extremely interesting. The Imagineering Field Guide to Epcot at Walt Disney World provides that experience-explaining large concepts and pointing out subtle details, revealing stories, back stories, and Imagineering insights never before heard, and showing sketches, paintings, and schematics used to develop the look of each attraction, condensed into a portable, easily referenced park guide. These user-friendly, beautifully illustrated guides are innovative and entertaining books that will enrich the guests’ time at the happiest places on earth. And now the series is being updated to include all the new attractions, shows, and lands in the Disney parks. Who better to tour you around the Disney parks than the Imagineers who created them? And what better than to have the most recent insider information? It’s all in the Imagineering Field Guides. >>Read More

If anyone could corner the millennium, Disney could. In presenting the theme music to its millennium celebration at Epcot Center in Florida, the megacorporation attempts a grand, musical year-2000 salute. Naturally, World Millennium Celebration weaves plenty of fiery brass, warm sting passages, stirring voices, and a mix of space romance and Earth adventure into the fabric of this fantasy work. Executive Music Producer Steve Skorija’s task seems to be providing a backdrop for live performance, a scrim to unfurl behind the spectacle. And in doing so, the themes “Reflections of Earth,” “We Go On,” “Tapestry of Nations,” “Promise,” and “Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand” (complete as a gospel version as well) have an “Up with People” undercurrent that is ambiguous even as it is mildly diverting. On those merits, Millennium Celebration succeeds as a score. But for sheer entertainment value, the CD needs to give us more of the legendary mouse’s magic and less of its roar. –Martin Keller >>Read More

California is a state that is home to many theme parks, including the world famous Disneyland. If you’re on a short vacation or have a tight budget, it can be difficult to choose one park that will keep the entire family happy. Listed below is three of California’s most popular theme parks; Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain. The following will help you decide which theme park is most appropriate for you.

Disneyland California

Disneyland will always remain a favorite amongst families thanks to it’s huge offering of rides and attractions. While it is not the cheapest park of the three, it will keep the family entertained right throughout the day (or days, depending on how long you stay). It’s sister park, Disney’s California Adventure will keep the daring teens occupied as it’s rides are mostly thrill rides.

Knott’s Berry Farm

Knott’s Berry Farm, located just minutes down the road from Disneyland, is perfect for a relatively inexpensive day out (in comparison to Disneyland). It offers rides and attractions for all ages, however there are very few attractions where the whole family can enjoy together.

Six Flags Magic Mountain

With over 15 roller coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountain is known as the roller coaster capital of the world. If you’re purely looking for a thrill and aren’t fussed by theming and the overall “experience”, this theme park is for you. Located in Valencia (about an hour from Anaheim), this thrill-seekers haven will keep the daring happy all day long. Contrary to belief, it is becoming a family orientated park with the recent addition of “Thomas Town” in 2008 – an entire section themed to “Thomas the Tank Engine”.

Adventures in Wild California will send you careening down an icy, steep mountain face with snowboarders; twirling on thermals above the clouds with skysurfers; swimming through the oceans with otters and their surrogate human mother; excavating the very heart of a thirty-story-tall Giant Sequoia with botanists and emerging from under the spray of one of the world’s biggest surfable waves. The heart-pounding imagery recreates an experience of California’s farthest edges that few will ever know first-hand. Narrated by Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue, L.A. Law); featuring music by Lindsey Buckingham. Ever wonder, “how did they do that?” The Making of ‘Adventures in Wild California, shot on High-Definition Video, takes you behind the scenes. Whoa! Dude, this is so rad you won’t believe it! It’s a 42-minute IMAX movie made by MacGillivray Freeman Films, the same guys who made that Everest film, and it is awesome. They filmed all kinds of cool stuff that people do in California–you know, like skysurfing, extreme surfing (dude, wait till you check out the size of these waves!), climbing monster sequoia trees, and walking up to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge. There’s a piece about Walt Disney and the first Mickey Mouse cartoon, too. And even if you don’t have an IMAX theater in your house, you can still see how amazing the film techniques they used to shoot this stuff are (in fact, there’s a 24-minute documentary explaining how they did it). And to top it off, the narration is read by Jimmy Smits, and there are a few tunes by Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Man, this is sweet. –Sam Graham >>Read More

A family vacation in a Disney theme park or Disneyland is always a dream holiday for millions of people around the world. The Disney brand is such a resounding success worldwide that it is inconceivable that any child in any developed country do not know what is Disneyland.

If America or Paris is too far away to take your family for a Disney vacation, then you can settle for either of the 2 Disneyland in Asia located in Tokyo and Hong Kong. Disney theme parks, wherever they are located usually have the same theme. For example, in Disney Tokyo will find the following theme parks which can be found on other Disneyland albeit sometimes in different ways the parks are presented.

World Bazaar – Sprawling smack at the entrance of the Tokyo Disneyland is the World Bazaar. This Bazaar is a reminiscent of turn of the century American town with the feeling that you may come face to face with an Apache Red Indian or an outlaw wanted by the local county sheriff.

Here you will find restaurants, shops, restaurants, outlets selling souvenirs and stuff that are appealing to tourists.

Tomorrow land – A space age futuristic theme park. A delightful combination of science and innovative imagination. In Tomorrowland, you can enjoy rides that rockets you to outer space or if you are a science geek, get invited to the “Inventor of the year award ceremony.” One of the favorite rides in Tomorrow Land is to help Buzz Light Year pulverize the Evil Emperor Zurg. Whatever that is.

Toon Town – Bring the children to Toon town, they will love you for this. Toon town is where Disney characters work and play. Toon town is designed to cater exclusively for the kids and is bursting with colors with plenty of kiddy rides.

Fantasy land – How can one be in magical Disneyland without entering the world of fairy tales and cartoons? Meet Disney’s icons Mickey Mouse, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Donald Duck, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Captain Hook and a host of Disney cartoon characters this never never land.

Critter Country – This is the land of the, well, you’ve guessed it, Critters. The critters are small animals from the Disney movie “Song of the South”. Enjoy watching the critters burrowing little homes along the banks of the Rivers of America and on the slopes of Splash Mountain.

Western land – A visit to the Wild Wild West brings you back in time to the earliest settlers of the American West. Perhaps the most important chapter of the American history. Enjoy dinning in restaurants from the wild west era.

Adventure land – This is the where you visit the African, South American and Asian rainforest. You can even take a cruise in a “crocodile infested” river. Tropical jungles in downtown Tokyo? Well, this is what Disney magic is all about isn’t it?

Designing Disney sets into history and puts into context the extraordinary contributions of the late John Hench, who, at the age of 94, still came into his office at Imagineering each day. His principles of theme park design, character design, and use of color made him a legendary figure, not only for Disney fans but also for students and aficionados of architecture, engineering, and design. Designing Disney reveals the magic behind John’s great discoveries and documents his groundbreaking in several key areas: “Design Philosophy” examines the values, attitudes, aesthetics, and logic that went into the original concepts for Disney theme parks. In “The Art of the Show” and “The Art of Color,” Hench reveals the essence of what makes the parks work so well. And in “The Art of Character,” he lets the reader in on the how and why of the Disney characters’ inherent popularity-their timeless human traits, archetypal shape and gestures that suggest these qualities graphically, and their emotional resonance in our lives. >>Read More
