On October 1, 1982, The Walt Disney Company opened its EPCOT Center to the world, heralding changes that would take the Disney property in Florida from a mere theme park to a world-class resort destination. Authors Steve Alcorn and David Green were there, as employees of Disney’s WED Imagineering. “Building a Better Mouse” tells the tale of the “hundreds of mostly young, mostly bright and all embarrassingly idealistic people” who worked on Epcot, and gives a unique insider’s perspective on what it was like to be in the trenches as a Disney Imagineer in the early 1980s, from pixie dusting – when new employees are indoctrinated into all things Disney – through the craziness of the engineering design process, right up until the last frantic dash to opening day. It is a breathtaking, breezy, E-ticket ride of a book, required reading for both hard-core Disneyphiles and people interested in the business side of themed entertainment. >>Read More

The Imagineering Field Guide series answers the question: “What would it be like to walk through a Disney park with an Imagineer by your side?” A lot of fun, actually! And extremely interesting. The Imagineering Field Guide to Epcot at Walt Disney World provides that experience-explaining large concepts and pointing out subtle details, revealing stories, back stories, and Imagineering insights never before heard, and showing sketches, paintings, and schematics used to develop the look of each attraction, condensed into a portable, easily referenced park guide. These user-friendly, beautifully illustrated guides are innovative and entertaining books that will enrich the guests’ time at the happiest places on earth. And now the series is being updated to include all the new attractions, shows, and lands in the Disney parks. Who better to tour you around the Disney parks than the Imagineers who created them? And what better than to have the most recent insider information? It’s all in the Imagineering Field Guides. >>Read More

If anyone could corner the millennium, Disney could. In presenting the theme music to its millennium celebration at Epcot Center in Florida, the megacorporation attempts a grand, musical year-2000 salute. Naturally, World Millennium Celebration weaves plenty of fiery brass, warm sting passages, stirring voices, and a mix of space romance and Earth adventure into the fabric of this fantasy work. Executive Music Producer Steve Skorija’s task seems to be providing a backdrop for live performance, a scrim to unfurl behind the spectacle. And in doing so, the themes “Reflections of Earth,” “We Go On,” “Tapestry of Nations,” “Promise,” and “Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand” (complete as a gospel version as well) have an “Up with People” undercurrent that is ambiguous even as it is mildly diverting. On those merits, Millennium Celebration succeeds as a score. But for sheer entertainment value, the CD needs to give us more of the legendary mouse’s magic and less of its roar. –Martin Keller >>Read More

We have been planning this for over a year and have our flight and park tickets already bought and paid for. My daughter is 3 and my son is 9 months old. My Dad works security in an airport and doesn’t seem too concerned about the airport issue, but do you think it is safe to visit Disneyland with my kids? I’m not too concerned, but should I be?

Designing Disney sets into history and puts into context the extraordinary contributions of the late John Hench, who, at the age of 94, still came into his office at Imagineering each day. His principles of theme park design, character design, and use of color made him a legendary figure, not only for Disney fans but also for students and aficionados of architecture, engineering, and design. Designing Disney reveals the magic behind John’s great discoveries and documents his groundbreaking in several key areas: “Design Philosophy” examines the values, attitudes, aesthetics, and logic that went into the original concepts for Disney theme parks. In “The Art of the Show” and “The Art of Color,” Hench reveals the essence of what makes the parks work so well. And in “The Art of Character,” he lets the reader in on the how and why of the Disney characters’ inherent popularity-their timeless human traits, archetypal shape and gestures that suggest these qualities graphically, and their emotional resonance in our lives. >>Read More

My family and I have our annual planned trip to Disneyland in 3 weeks.

Art Linkletter, renowned TV personality and host of the live Disneyland opening day TV broadcast on July 17, 1955, recalled his first impression of Disneyland. “Walt brought me down here to Anaheim when Disneyland was under construction and it was nothing but dirt roads and orange groves, the Santa Ana Freeway wasn’t even completed,” said Linkletter. “I didnt want to spoil Walts enthusiasm but I thought Geez!
Sing, dance, and play along with your favorite Disney songs! It’s fun and easy as you read the on-screen lyrics and join your favorite characters in their most memorable musical moments! Sing along to the happiest songs on earth at the happiest place on earth — Disneyland! Your host, Mr. Owl, invites you to celebrate a musical day with all your favorite Disney friends. Join Mickey and Minnie for fun and thrills as they hustle and bustle behind the scenes at the park! Then get a front-row seat on some of the wildest rides, like Star Tours, Splash Mountain and the Matterhorn, with Chip ‘n’ Dale, Roger Rabbit, and a Magic Kingdom filled with sing-along adventures. It’s easy to see why this is one of the bestselling sing-alongs from Disney: it plays like the ultimate family-vacation home movie. Instead of fleeting glimpses of your favorite characters on your home videos of Disneyland, this 27-minute episode showcases Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, and their friends hanging out with kids inside the Magic Kingdom singing (well, their lips don’t move) such popular songs as ” Zip a Dee Do Dah,” “It’s a Small World,” and “Step in Time” with the lyrics appearing on screen for youngsters. The one drawback is the video was shot in 1990, so none of the newer rides are shown, and worse yet, some older rides seen aren’t around anymore (“Mom, why didn’t we go on the submarine?”). Perhaps that isn’t a drawback since, despite the age, and some truly unknown songs (“Making Memories”), the program continues to be popular. –Doug Thomas >>Read More

With the help of a prominent and reliable Orange County Airport shuttle service-offering company, persons traveling to or from major airports are guaranteed to arrive to their destination on time, safely and in impeccable conditions. Dedicated shuttle services account for all the needs and requirements of their customers, permanently aiming to deliver efficient services in exchange for affordable fees. In addition, regular and occasional customers who book Orange County Airport shuttle services for traveling to popular locations nearby benefit from generous discounts and special pricings. Thanks to the wide range of advantages they offer to clients, Orange County Airport shuttle services have become very popular lately, receiving a lot of positive feed-back from persons who constantly travel by air and depend on a reliable and efficient means of transportation to major Orange County airports or from the airport back home.

If you are looking for a convenient, safe and fast way to travel from nearby cities to SNA Airport, from the airport back home or in popular locations in Orange County, the best option is to hire the services of a respectable SNA shuttle van transportation company. SNA shuttle vans can pick you up right at home or from many different locations in Orange County. Such services are very easy to book; all you have to do is make a phone call in order to reserve a seat and give instructions regarding your location (if you request to be picked up at home or nearby hotels). Shuttle vans are large and spacious, features that render them ideal for persons who are traveling with consistent luggage.

By booking the services of a solid, competitive shuttle van transportation company, you will benefit from special rates when traveling to Disneyland and other popular attractions in Orange County. There are numerous shuttles that punctually run from SNA Airport to Disneyland Hotel or other nearby hotels every day, so these types of services are perfect for persons who are traveling with the family. Disneyland shuttles are very safe, comfortable and affordable, traits that transform the trip to Disneyland into a pleasant and memorable experience. Disneyland shuttle vans are spacious, comfortable and luxurious, accommodating six or more persons at a time. Once you choose the right Disneyland Airport shuttle, you are guaranteed to only benefit from impeccable services in exchange for very affordable fees.

Compared to car rentals or driving you own car, Disneyland shuttle services are by far cheaper, safer (you will be serviced by experienced, professional drivers) and faster (having great knowledge of Orange County, shuttle van drivers can easily choose the fastest routes). By hiring competitive Disneyland shuttle services you will eliminate the stress of finding the right routes, avoiding traffic jams, or finding a cheap parking space; simply relax and enjoy the ride, and you will arrive at your destination safely and right on schedule.

>>Read More
